Students should only arrive between 6:00-6:15; the gym may not be open earlier.  Each grade will be seated together and with their teachers.

Music Minions!
This year's classroom theme.  Students have enjoyed discovering new minions helping to learn the "solfege" pitches of Do, Re, Mi, Sol, and La so far.  In January, more hand signs and pitches on the scale will be learned, along with some new song-stories and movement games. 

Grades 2-3: Meet the Composer! 

Who was Edvard Grieg? 
In October, students heard "The Peer Gynt Suite" and story, and played along with "In the Hall of the Mountain King."  

Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky  composed The Nutcracker Suite.
With the new "Four Realms" movie ads on tv, a new generation of children is hearing and recognizing this beloved music.

All of the "active listening" as children hear different instruments, tempos, and other elements is preparing them to begin meeting the orchestra during the upcoming winter months.


Kindergarten: Our two large groups of early learners have worked hard on using their voices in new ways (such as "singing," "calling" and "whispering"); and to practice being loud enough without "yelling" voices.  Remembering words, notes, and what to do during the weekly classes... so Echo and follow-the-leader songs have been especially important this year.  
      Learning to sing for a concert is a lot harder than it may seem; and a first concert can be frightening.   


Grade 1: This class has been learning to work together, to keep a steady beat, recognize and move with their Right and Left, and to match more pitches and rhythms.  They enjoy trying the hand signs and having movements, along with lots of animation and silliness!

The PRIMARY OBJECTIVES for Elementary music classes are all the same -- we just build on them once established!
       *  To SING:  Hearing, following,  and sharing pitches
       *  To PLAY:  Reading cues and symbols to create music with chants, games, and classroom instruments
       *  To MOVE:  Experiencing & exploring rhythms, patterns, beats & contexts through movement
       *  To PERFORM:  Putting it all together and sharing it with others!
