Mrs. Moren - Grade 3

Week of  October 16-20

Book orders are usually sent out the first Friday of the month. Book Club online number is located in your child's homework journal.

These are the topics I plan to cover this week:

Spelling -   words with diphthongs oi,oy,ou,ow

Reading -  Students will be reading a realistic fiction story called My Rows and Piles of Coins  by Tololwa Mollel. We will be working with prefixes and suffixes.

Social Studies - We will continue in our "Government in Action" books as part of our  Constitution unit. We will have an open book quiz on the First Amendment. We will be discussing hurricanes in our Scholastic News.

Science -  We  will start our unit on forests by learning about types of forests. We will take a field trip on Thursday to explore different types of trees nearby.

Math -   We will continue our place value chapter working with numbers in the thousands. We will also review rounding numbers to the closest ten, hundred, and thousand. We continue to practice our addition and subtraction facts. Students would benefit from extra practice at home.
Language -  We will be writing spooky stories this week. We will be learning about compound sentences.

We have a student with tree nut allergy. Please be careful when sending items for school parties.

Information about a school fundraiser ( recipe book) will be sent home on Monday.
